During the year, Anchorage plays host to several races, one of which includes the Anchorage RunFest. The two-day event, formerly known as the Big Wild Life Runs, features several different races, including a kids’ 2K, Anchorage mile, 5K, half marathon, marathon, and 49K. The Skinny Raven Half Marathon is the most popular of the six events. Over 650 runners completed the 2016 half marathon.
The 2017 race is scheduled for August 20 and starts at Humpy’s Ale House on 6th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. The route includes the Chester Creek Trail, various parts of the city, East Chester Park, and Goose Lake Park. The route includes significant hills along the final stretch of the race, when runners reach the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and head back toward the Ale House.
